Tamara Bouman
Choreographer
Tamara is a 25 year old Birripai contemporary dance artist and performer, currently based in both Naarm, Melbourne, and Eora, Sydney.
Tamara began her dance training at 3 years old in Sydney – training at both classical ballet and Commercial Dance schools. In 2019 she graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Dance). Her experience as a performer and creative collaborator encompasses a range of performance modalities including contemporary dance and ballet, performance art, children’s performance, circus, contact improvisation, film, and physical theatre. She is passionate about cultivating a positive and collaborative environment, and is keenly interested in cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural collaboration, exploring, learning and sharing through and beyond the human body, and using dance to deepen her connection to her culture, land, herself, her collaborators and her audience.
Tamara has worked with a wide range of artists and companies including Stephanie Lake, Alisdair MacIndoe, Ngioka Bunda-Heath, Emily Flannery, Vicki Van Hout, Legs on The Wall, Na Djinang Circus and others across various independent projects, and she was as a company dancer with Sydney Dance Company in 2022, where she performed various works by Raphaela Bonachela, as well as commissions by Stephanie Lake, Sophia Ndaba and Charmene Yap.
