Skills Development Workshop
February – April
At the start of each year from February through to April our Founder and Artistic Director Michelle Leonard OAM, along with some of our team, deliver over 90 free educational music workshops to students from over 123 schools. This annual tour covers an enormous amount of territory – from Armatree to Yoogali, and Cobar to Wee Waa and now extending to Griffith and Tamworth – in everywhere in between.
These workshops are delivered FREE for all children at school on the day to develop skills and understandings in music that are aligned with Year 3-12 syllabus. They are practical, joyful and focus on music literacy, singing and body percussion.
Students who demonstrate capacity identified in the workshop will be invited to participate in our annual residency camps. Here approximately 300 students travel to Baradine with like-minded people to dance, sing, compose, draw, drum and connect to culture. These camps are delivered in partnership with the highest quality professional musicians, performers, composers, choreographers and visual artists with joy, humour and an army of volunteers to support our children to thrive.
So far we have laughed, learned and collaborated with over 54,000 remarkable children and youth in the third of western NSW our program calls home. We truly appreciate the incredible support from schools, communities, families, Elders and the children themselves as we commit to showcasing the energy, capacity and creative excellence of our extraordinary region.
The Skills Development Workshops are an unmissable opportunity for primary and secondary students to sing, move and create together. And perhaps discover a life-long love of music and singing!
If your school or community is not represented here then please contact us and we’ll do our best to remedy that.
