      BIRrALii

Moorambilla Voices encourages everyone to sing, in particular primary children! That is why within this ensemble we have merged Year 3 boys and girls! This age group when together creates an incredibly exciting and powerful musical instrument.

Each year this ensemble co-create works that celebrate not only their unique capacity, but also the rich cultural heritage of the region. When together, they create performances that celebrate their sense of self, their friendship, their communities and their outstanding intellect.

There will be up to ‘80’ places offered on merit each year in the Moorambilla Voices Biralee Choir with the opportunity to tour, record and perform. Following the Skills Development Workshop Tour, talented girls and boys will be offered a place in the choir and the chance to participate in the Baradine Residency Camps, Dubbo camp and Gala Performances, Tours or Concerts and Recordings throughout the year. We work hard to ensure that any child who is offered a place is supported financially to do so through our policies of inclusion and equity!

The choirs meet for two residency camps, one in August in Baradine and one in September in Dubbo for the Gala Concerts. At these camps, students will work alongside leading composers, musicians, artists and choreographers to engage in challenging new learning experiences and collaboratively create repertoire for performances. They will develop skills in:

      Choral singing and repertoire

      Music theory and sight-singing

      Movement and dance

Creativity in other artistic mediums, like visual arts

      Performance experience

      Self-discipline and concentration

Performing as part of an ensemble

If you have been selected to take part, congratulations! You are about to experience the magic of Moorambilla!

Moorambilla Voices encourages everyone to sing – particularly primary children. Their treble voices are an incredible powerful and versatile instrument and the emotional intensity they generate in performance is electrifying.

Both boys and girls voices change during adolescence but boys have their unique gift for such a small time in their life – so we make sure they utilise it to the full!

Our composers understand boys choirs and their capacity, they write music that intellectually and emotionally engages the boys in rehearsal and performance. Our choristers work with outstanding choreographers and visual artists who help synthesise the artistic focus each year into breathtaking performances.

These performances celebrate the rich cultural heritage of our region and showcase our choirs incredible capacity to sing, dance and create.

There are up to 84 places offered on merit each year in the Moorambilla Voices Burraay ensemble with the opportunity to tour, record and perform.

The Moorambilla Burraay, Moorambilla Mayrra and Moorambilla Birralii are for primary students in Years 3-6. They develop skills in:

      Choral singing and repertoire

      Drumming and percussion

Creativity in other artistic mediums, like visual arts

      Performance experience

Performing as part of an ensemble

As well as rehearsing as a choir there will be many opportunities for other activities on camp such as making and playing percussion instruments, lantern making, creating visual art, dancing and connecting to country. There may also be opportunities to work with other artists in residence, as in past years, where the students were involved in painting and weaving the Gala concert backdrop and artworks used to decorate the performance spaces. In short, lots of intensely creative and fun times for all.

The repertoire and skills learnt during the August residency camps in Baradine are put into practice at the annual Moorambilla Gala Concert in September, 2022. The ensembles sign-in at Dubbo and then perform in two concerts alongside some of Australia’s leading musicians and associate ensembles.
